Frederick Frahm's John the Baptist is a major work in the form of a sacred oratorio. The English libretto is drawn from the Gospels of St. Luke and St. John, Latin Vulgate, and the Vita di Sancto Giovanni Baptista by Lucrezia Tornabuoni de Medici. The two organs form specific functions within the storytelling of this work: a grand organ to offer larger voluntaries as overtures, and a choir organ to accompany the choir and soli. In six scenes, the story of The Baptist's life unfolds through the events surrounding his birth and youth, his work as the forerunner of Christ, and his martyrdom at the hands of Herod. This work complete will run circa 60 minutes. Permission to reproduce all pages for local use is provided upon the purchase of this download. Sample pages from the full score are below, as well as the complete libretto.
