Dauphinée House, 1932

$10.00

By Frederick Frahm. Music for organ solo.

Description

After a painting by Edward Hopper.

About this piece the composer writes: “Hopper’s paintings have always moved me deeply. On the surface they present beautiful scenes, but behind the noble architecture of the American heartlands and the exquisite plays of light, the houses (and even the people) are empty and lonely and in the middle of a nowhere of sorts.

This abstract music, a sonic study in Hopper’s solitude, creates a sound world laced with anxiety and fracture. It is not a soothing work, but an honest one offering emotional connection and sympathy in an age filled with concern (both Hopper’s and ours).”
