Malinche in the Forest

$10.00

By Frederick Frahm. Music for organ solo.

Description

One of two works after texts by Haniel Long. In this work, Malinche ponders her new reality in the appearance of Hernán Cortés.

“…We the disinherited sit quietly in the mossy smell of the great forest. Like me, these old men are slaves. I whisper. We whisper always for fear of spying priests. But the old man who shares my soul does not wish to die. He remembers what it was my father taught us:The God with the corn-silk hair remains. The Feathered Serpent remains.”

adapted from ‘Malinche’ by Haniel Long, 1939
