Frederick Frahm, American composer, organist, publisher, and parish musician was born in California, USA, in 1964. He is a founding co-director of Firehead Organ Works. He recently served as a Production Editor in the music department at Augsburg Fortress in Minneapolis.
A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, WA) where he earned degrees in Church Music (BM) and Organ Performance (MM), he studied organ, improvisation, and counterpoint with David Dahl and Gregory Peterson; composition with Roger Briggs and Gregory Youtz; and conducting with Richard Sparks.
Frahm has directed church music programs across the US since he was 16 years old. He contributed as a classical music critic to the Bellingham Herald in Bellingham, WA, served as an adjunct faculty member of Concordia University in River Forest, IL, where he taught 16th century counterpoint, music theory & composition, and orchestration.
From 2011 to 2022, Frahm served as a collaborative teaching artist, resident composer, and accompanist for the Santa Fe Opera Company LifeSongs & Active Learning Through Opera (ALTO) programs.
A prolific composer of more than 900 works, his catalog of compositions includes works for organ, choral music, chamber pieces, art song and song cycle, symphony and concerto, and extended vocal works including operas and cantatas. His music is well documented in recordings on Youtube and is widely performed in the US and Europe.
